Hintertux in Austria

Resort Guide

Hintertux is probably better known as a summer glacier destination, where international world cup ski teams come to train on the what is often reckoned to be the best combination of snow quality and a decent range of terrain of varying pitch. It is a bleak and often dull setting, but it is still quite pretty. Although there are a couple of groups of hotels and pensions which form the village itself, the Tux valley has four other small villages strung at regular intervals (Lanersbach, Madseit, Juns, Vorderslanersbach) down the road to Mayrhofen, which is 17km away and linked by a regular bus which now runs until 2am. Generally living costs drop with the amenities available as you progress up the valley. Lanersbach is a more traditional village which is a good compromise between being close to Mayrhofen, it is a bigger village and yet is that bit more accessible to the glacier.

Accomodation & Après Ski

Through the valley the apres ski choice is suitable for most ages and tastes, even if it may involve some travelling. Most of the eating and drinking is based in the hotels. The Badhoteler Kirchler has 190 beds and has an indoor swimming poor, bars and a small disco.
