Soll lost much of its rather unfortunate reputation as an 80s destination for single young drunks, many on their first ski holidays, as the Austrian schilling priced the young Brits off the slopes and out of the bars. Now it has returned to a budget priced picture postcard family resort with low rise painted chalets spreading up the valley which has a picturesque baroque church at the centre. It has still a lively following with the young and offers good value for money. Soll is a central feature of the SkiWelt circuit which spans an area between the Wilder Kaiser Massif and the Kitzbuheler Alps. It also takes in eight other resorts including Ellmau, Scheffau and Westendorf offers 250kms of skiing with nearly 100 lifts to make it the biggest linked winter playground in Austria. Having suffered through its lack of altitude with spells of poor snow cover Soll has doubled its snowmaking capacity over the last couple of seasons and offers a vast array of intermediate terrain. Soll is a fine looking, spacious resort with a good complement of shops, bars and restaurants, hotels and pensions including a big modern sports centre with an indoor swimming pool complex.
