Poiana Brasov in Romania

Resort Guide

Set in the Carpathian Mountains just under 200km from Bucharest and a 20 minute drive from the town of Brasov, this is a purpose built 1950s slightly extended resort village enjoying a scenic pine forest location. The ski area is pretty small by European standards and is best suited to beginners and early intermediates. The resort is little more than a collection of hotels, restaurants and a sports centre.

Accomodation & Après Ski

The village offers a few decent hotels which are modestly priced. The Hotel Alpin has an indoor swimming pool. All rooms are en-suite and have satellite TV. The Bradul Hotel is right by the beginners slope and as well as en-suite rooms, also has small apartments. The 500 bed Ciucas Hotel, also has apartmens, is the resort's largest and has a nightclub and ski hire. Apres ski is limited, cheap and pretty cheerful. Food is generally not very inspiring but cheap. Drink is also very cheap and there are usually plenty of visitors taking full advantage. The hotel bars and nightclubs are basically all there is, but they are usually busy enough with discos and live music aplenty, folklore shows. As well as swimming, skating sleigh rides and riding there is nearby Brasov. In Brasov the Carpathian Stag is worth a visit for a cultural evening with wine tasting and traditional food, and the Dacia restaurant is worth a visit for the wild boar. A half-day trip to Dracula's castle is available locally.
