Les Deux Alpes in France Resort Guide

The Southern Alps resort of Les Deux Alpes is a lively playground high in the Dauphine region which has spread itself out along the road as it snakes along the the base of a narrow north-south running valley. The newest part of the town, Le Village appears first as you approach from the north. Despite the pockets of different architectural styles - there is everything - and the growth of the resort it retains a strong, intimate village atmosphere.

Skiing is from 1650m to 3600m so Les Deux Alpes combines a good record for snow, sunny slopes complemented by a sparkling apres ski scene. A good number of the gentle runs, as well as the intermediate terrain that is the staple diet in the area, lie above 2000 metres and the glacier at 3200m is fairly flat, so it is a good snowsure bet for the less exparienced. The many lifts start along the valley on both sides, so mostly you should not be too far from a means of getting up the mountain to take advantage of the generally well linked lift system. Plenty of beginners lifts emanate from valley level, so there is lots of skiing for beginners close to the village.

2016 saw the long-awaited opening of the new blue piste to the village - this now gives an alternative way 'home' enabling skiers to avoid the often crowded, narrow Desmoiselles green run, or the trickier Diable black (you can always download on various lifts too).  The new blue means it's usually possible to ski from the top of the glacier, back to the village, on mostly blue pistes.

A favourite resort of Born 2 Ski, we know it well, so do ask any questions

Accomodation & Après Ski

Les Deux Alpes has a great variety of accommodation from basic self-catering, through to simple B & B hotels, smarter half board hotels, some excellent chalets with facilities such as hot tubs, saunas and plunge pools and some Chalet Hotels.

Apres is also varied with friendly and quiet bars, the on-piste Pano bar for a lively apres hour of DJ and dancing, umbrella bars at the foot of the slopes, great restaurants offering everything from a sandwich or slice of pizza, to fine dining.  Prices are generally lower than in other parts of the Alps, and most bars have daily happy hours.
