Pamporova in Bulgaria Resort Guide

A relatively small scale resort which requires a short free ski bus from the hotels which are strung out along the main road between the village centre and the lift station. Any inconvenience can be softened by leaving your equipment at the ski stores by the lift station. The southernmost ski resort in Europe claims an almost unfeasibly high average hours of sunshine - neither of which we would necessarily associate with great snow conditions! Still, when conditions are favourable it is a good beginners and very early intermediates' domain. The ski school has a good reputation. Shops are still very limited; again take cash rather than travellers cheques or rely on credit cards.

Accomodation & Après Ski

Still very inexpensive, Pamporovo is good for beginners and families with limited horizons and budgets. Local cultural evenings are a change from watery fondues or overweight Austrians slapping their pimply thighs: try an evening in the Chervmeto on the slivova with honey, local wine and whole roast lambs. The more conventional bars and night clubs are attractive for their prices -which in themselves tend to fuel the odd riotous evening. Discos include the Spider and the Bedrock, reasonable pubs include the authentic sounding White Hart adn BJ's. Do pre-book ski hire packs and lift tickets in the UK. Accomodation again is mainly hotel based. Newest is the imaginitively named Hotel Pamporovo which is closer to the ski lifts. Bedrooms are generally en-suite and have satellite TV and a mini-bar. The hotel has its own gym, leisure pool and jacuzzi, hairdresser, sauna and solarium. So also the Perelik is a three star estbalishment with 5 bars and a disco, leisure facilities and pool and a coffee bar. The Mourgavets is also reasonable.
