Snowbird in USA Resort Guide
Snowbird Village. Snowbird is more of a hard core skier and boarders resort than nearby Park City. Why? Simple?Snowbird's Hidden Peak rises to 11,000ft accepts an annual mean of over 500 inches of snowfall - much of it the fine grained champagne powder attesting to Utah's claim to the 'greatest snow on earth' - and has a face criss-crossed by a challenging network of double black diamond and black runs. The season often extends to 200 days. Snowmaking???largely redundant thanks. Over half of the terrain is the real steep and deep stuff, but there is enough to keep the good, solid intermediates occupied and expansion on the mountain over the last five years has introduced a few tamer runs for the modest intermediate. The base station is where all of the main accommodation is clustered. Largely unpretentious concrete apartments, purpose built multi storey hotels there is enough upscale accommodation to serve the discerning tastes of the committed Snowbird devotee who can spend more freely. The main blocks are built around the base station for the Tram, a cable car which despatches 125 skiers to the summit in 8 minutes. Main accommodation at Snowbird are Cliff Lodge, The Lodge at Snowbird, The Inn, The Iron Blossom. The Cliff Lodge is an expansive 11 storey atrium centred block with a range of apartments, a few shops, among the restaurants in here is the renowned Aerie restaurant which shares a great outlook on to the mountain, and a huge spa on the top floor with a pool which has views of the mountain. In total there are about a dozen restaurants and as many shops. Apres ski is predictably quiet and limited.
